The council of Vila do Bispo has a very wealth historical heritage, with a big number of fortress and forts located throughout the south coast.

The council has more than 90% of its surface inside the the natural park of the Southeast Alentejo and e da Costa Vicentina (PNSACV). Vila do Bispo is the only council in Algarve that has two different types of coast: the meridional (southern) and the occidental coast. For this reason talking about Vila do Bispo and Sagres is talking about the sea.
